The rules in a nutshell
Below is a real example from the game engine: the two highlighted tiles are joined with two turns, going around the tiles in the way.
- Tiles lie face-up in a grid. Tap two identical tiles to remove them as a pair.
- The two tiles must be linked by a line of at most three straight segments — no more than two turns.
- The line may only cross empty cells, and it may go around the outside edge of the board.
- Seasons (spring, summer, autumn, winter) match each other, and so do the four flowers.
- No moves left? The remaining tiles are reshuffled, and the new layout can always be finished.
The tiles
A set has 36 kinds of tile, four of each: dots, bamboo and characters numbered 1 to 9, the four winds, the three dragons, four seasons and four flowers. Smaller boards use a random selection of kinds.

How to Play
From your first tap to a clear board: what "two turns" means, when tiles won't connect, and how flowers and seasons match.
Tips
Clear the edges first, think in fours, and watch out for crossed pairs: seven habits for fewer hints and faster times.
Shisen-Sho vs Solitaire
All three match mahjong tiles. The difference is whether tiles are stacked, how a connection works, and how flowers pair up.
Daily Puzzle
One board a day for the whole world: when it changes, how the timer works, and how streaks and shared results work.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mahjong Connect free?
Yes. It is completely free and runs in your browser. There is nothing to download and no account to create.
Is every board really solvable?
Yes. Before a board is shown, a solver finds a way to clear it. If you get stuck because of the order you chose, the remaining tiles are reshuffled and the new layout is checked again.
How does the daily board work?
Everyone in the world gets the same board each day; it changes at midnight UTC. Your time and result are saved on this device, and you can copy a short result to share.
How is this different from mahjong solitaire?
In mahjong solitaire the tiles are stacked in layers and you take free tiles from the top. In Mahjong Connect everything lies flat, and two tiles match only if a line with at most two turns can join them.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The board turns to fit a portrait screen, and the tiles are large enough to tap. You can also add it to your home screen.
Is this gambling?
No. It is a puzzle game for fun and practice. No money, bets or prizes are involved.
